We stayed here our last few nights on our Italian trip. It was cheap and close to the trains, which was good. Not really a great hotel. We had real trouble checking in and the room was not great. The mattress was thin and not that comforable. On the plus side, good location. We could walk to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.

We stayed in this hotel from 23rd to 26th Oct 23. Our travel agent got this hotel booked due to its location, which is near Roma Termini. Other than the location everything else is not right with this hotel. Starting with the first day, when we tried to contact the hotel over phone to inform them about our late night artival due to our trian from Florence running late, the man at the reception refused to talk to us and asked us to send us a mail. We did that after getting their email address from net. The hotel has only breakfast service and after that we can't expect any service including hot water for medicines etc. They even refused to provide an electric kettle in our room. The rooms are too small with bathroom still smaller. Shower cabin is such that only slim persons can take bath with the cabin door open. Toiletries provided are of inferior quality. No change in of variety in Breakfast items which is very basic. We were informed that these do not change day after day. Basically it is a hostel with an attached bath which cones with an inflared tariff. Our worst nightmare was on the last night. At about 4 am in the morning, we started experiencing strange funes in the room burning our eyes and making us cough. We had to run out of the room and inform the person on reception who tried to call tge technical person. Technical person didn't come at all. After a couple of hours the owner came. Meanwhile the cause of the fumes was found to be leakage of refrigent gas of the refrigerator. Had we not got up in time, god knows what would have happened. But the owner had no regret or remorse on this life threatening incident. There was not a word of sorry or regret for putting our life at risk and spoiling our night. Any sensible hotel management would have offered at waiver of atleast one night rent. Against this, at the time of check out , we were charged Euro 3 for the 500 ml water bottle which we had consumed in the rush of this incident. While such an incident itself is not expected in any hotel , the behavior of hotel staff including owner is highly deplorable. The staff was really nice and kind to us especially the man with glasses. Room was nice and cozy. Everyday they clean our room and give us new towels. The reception is 24/7 so you don’t have to carry your room card with you when you go out.

The room was just large enough. The bed comfortable. The bathrooms clean. However, staff were totally unhelpful and had a huge attitude problem. They would not suggest or arrange any tours other than tours on their website which were not available. After 2 days when we hung the sign outside the door to clean the room. The sign was removed and put inside the room, but the room was not cleaned. When we pointed this out the staff argued that the room was cleaned. There is no restaurant on site, and there is no arrangement to have food delivered to our room from nearby restaurants. "They don't want to deal with us - Your wife can go and pick it up (because I am handicapped and cannot walk long distances) " was the response of the staff when we pointed this out after returning by taxi after a tiring first day out. The restaurant outside is good but has a queue most of the time. There is a breakfast room, but we were not allowed to eat food my wife brought from nearby restaurants even after we told the staff that we will clear up after we eat. There was no one to help us with the luggage even though we are senior citizens, and I am handicapped (and this was informed well in advance before we even checked in). "You can wheel the suitcases to the elevator" was the staff response. The elevator can barely take one person with one large bag. No hot food at breakfast other than toast and tea / coffee - "Too many people" was the staff response. However, the available bakery products and cold cuts and fruits were good.

So many downsides to this hotel...... Lift only goes to 5th floor then you have to lug your suitcases and belongings up a staircase with no air-con. Lift is very slow and only three people are allowed in it at a time. Aircon blows slightly cool, very humid air into the room so be ready to sweat when just sitting still! We told the hotel about it and they came up and just adjusted the lever so that the slightly cool, humid air would blow in a different direction in the room. They didn't add freon to the unit, they didn't clean the filters of the unit. It's going to be 100 degrees today in Rome. Air cons should work and work well. Water in the shower oscillates from luke warm to scalding and back and forth so be careful. Shower curtain is old and yellow but used to be white. Water gets in the floor from the shower because the curtain won't close all the way. The towels are thin and not good quality. Bed topping looks like something from the 60"s and does not look clean! It's the same material as the curtains - pretty gross. The hotel front desk wants your key turned in every time you leave the hotel. We gave them our key, went out to pick up some water. When we came back they couldn't find it immediately and accused us of keeping it. Thank goodness one of the front desk ladies remembered that she had indeed taken our key! The hotel wants you to pay in cash only. So if you don't have cash you have to go to the ATM and you end up paying a fee for the international withdrawal and it is not a small fee. Pillows are flat. Bedding is not up to par with what a 3 star hotel should be. Some good things: It is relatively quiet. We are on the 6th floor. Our TV worked and did have English channels. I watched Big Bang Theory. This hotel is close to the train station. There are many restaurants and shops around here. I thought breakfast was good but I don't eat it. I had coffee. They have a machine that make cappuccino and lattes. I loved it. The breakfast items are carb heavy. Lots of pastries, cakes and bread. They did have some salami and other meat. I would not recommend this hotel or stay here again.
